“Turn off the light on my way out the door…”

This post is belated, and in some ways very much belated. As much as basically any other The Academy Is… fan, I’m extremely upset to hear they’ve broken up. I have to admit I’m not much for reading all the interviews, I’m more just about the mourning. I’m sure it was a perfectly good reason and they’ll all move on to great things and this isn’t just whining for them to get back together. This is a THANK YOU! A thank you to one of the reasons I am who I am. Without The Academy Is… I would’ve have fallen in love with music the way I did. There would never be driving hours to go to some nearly empty venue and watching bands play ‘til my mom can’t stand waiting at my grandmother’s house for us (it took her about six hours, we didn’t even see the headliner) or going to shifty venues on the fringe of the city or spending every cent I have on iTunes money. I’d dress a bit more normal with a lot less band-t’s. I’d possibly even hate the English language a bit more than I already do. There are many bands I love and adore that I never would’ve heard of, had I not started listening to The Academy Is…. For those of you who know me on a personal level, this would include Butch Walker, and I don’t think you guys could imagine me not knowing Butch Walker. So this is to you, William Beckett, Mike Carden, Adam Siska, Andy Mrotek, Michael Guy Chislett, and Tom Conrad (to which this is especially belated), thank you for the music, the life style, the love, the inspiration you’ve given me and I hope and know where ever you go good things will follow.
